A major educational advancement is unfolding in the Western Region as plans for a new tertiary institution gain momentum. A high level government delegation has concluded a crucial four day working visit to the Western Nzema area to advance the establishment of the proposed Jomoro College of Education.
The strategic field mission aimed to engage local community leaders and evaluate essential corporate partnerships to support the construction phase. This project will successfully expand access to quality teacher training and unlock massive economic opportunities for the youth within the municipality.
The powerful state delegation traveled through the Western Nzema communities from July 16 to July 19, 2026. The technical team was led by Professor George K.T. Oduro, who serves as the Technical Advisor to the Minister of Education and previously functioned as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.
The group brought together top directors from the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission alongside local project coordinators like Dr Samuel Nda Blay. Their presence underlines the serious academic planning going into this new school to ensure it meets international tertiary training standards from day one.
As part of their regional tour, the government officials visited the massive Ghana Gas Processing Plant located at Atuabo. The delegation chose to tour this vital energy hub to establish early corporate social responsibility partnerships that can support the upcoming school.
Dr Samuel Nda Blay highly commended the management of Ghana Gas for adding premium value to our natural resources and producing critical petroleum products for domestic use. The team believes that closer ties between the new college and major corporate bodies in the region will create sustainable community development and skills training opportunities.
The field tour included intensive stakeholders engagement sessions designed to build lasting peace and project support. The technical team held productive meetings with local Members of Parliament, Municipal Chief Executives, Assembly Members, and regional directors of education.
The delegation further embarked on a familiarization tour of the official project site located at Ezinlibo. They held deep consultations with the paramount chiefs of the Western Nzema traditional area to secure litigation free lands and ensure that the project aligns perfectly with local community values.
Setting up a modern higher education institution brings immense long term advantages far beyond ordinary classroom lessons. The new college will train highly qualified teachers who will eventually populate basic schools in our rural farming and fishing villages.
Logically, bringing thousands of students, lecturers, and workers into the Jomoro Municipality will automatically boost the sales of local food vendors, landlords, and transport operators. The entire delegation successfully completed their community assessment meetings on Sunday before returning to Accra to present their final report.
