Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has launched an urgent technical investigation into a sudden power system disturbance that plunged several parts of the country into darkness during the early hours of Wednesday.

According to an official statement from GRIDCo, the National Interconnected Transmission System experienced a major disturbance at approximately 3:11 a.m. This technical glitch caused multiple power generation plants across the national grid to trip simultaneously, shutting down electricity distribution nationwide.

Engineers and system operators immediately activated emergency restoration procedures to bring power plants back online safely. GRIDCo emphasized that its teams are working continuously alongside key power sector stakeholders to restore electricity to affected communities without compromising grid safety.

Despite these ongoing technical efforts, electricity remains off in many commercial and residential hubs as of 11:00 a.m. Local business owners reliant on constant power have been forced to temporarily halt operations, raising concerns about commercial losses across the manufacturing and services sectors.
