The political temperature inside the country has reached boiling point following a very sharp public attack on the state’s top anti-graft agency. The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has openly described the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as a highly politicized institution.
The lawmaker accused the investigative body of playing partisan games after its operatives arrested Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a senior aide to the New Patriotic Party presidential candidate. This public clash has renewed intense discussions regarding how ruling regimes utilize state security forces against political opponents.

The controversial arrest took place immediately after Dennis Miracles Aboagye arrived back inside the country from an international trip. Speaking during a live broadcast session on Channel One TV’s current affairs program, The Big Issue, John Darko questioned the logic behind the dramatic airport operation.
The Suame lawmaker argued that since the senior political advisor had previously honored every single invitation from the anti-graft agency, a simple telephone call or official invitation letter would have sufficed. Darko explained that arresting a prominent individual who returned home on his own free will looks like a calculated attempt to create bad public perception.
According to official briefings from the investigative team, the high-profile arrest forms part of an ongoing probe into major financial and procurement irregularities. The case centers around approximately fifty-five million Ghana cedis during Miracles Aboagye’s past tenure as the Executive Secretary at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation Secretariat.
The state insists that the swift physical pickup was completely necessary to guarantee that the former government official stays fully available for the ongoing inquiries. Following an intense interrogation session at the agency’s headquarters, investigators eventually released Miracles Aboagye on a massive bail condition totaling fifty million Ghana cedis with three justified sureties.
The Suame representative did not spare either side of the political divide, warning that turning independent investigative bodies into political football entities damages national stability. He noted that it has unfortunately become fashionable in Ghana for members of the National Democratic Congress to celebrate whenever an NPP figure faces arrest, a toxic culture that likely happened in reverse during past administrations.
While Darko logically admitted that any public officer suspected of financial wrongdoing must face the full rigors of accountability, he stressed that the national fight against corruption must maintain total fairness. Pushing state institutions to follow strict due process remains the absolute only way to maintain public confidence and prevent the legal system from looking like a tool for pure political victimization.
