The economy of the Volta Region is preparing for a massive transformation following a major developmental update from the sector ministry. The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has officially assured local residents that the construction of the Keta Port and the transformation of the Ho Airport are on course.
The state is working deliberately to position the region as a primary transport, logistics, and tourism hub in West Africa. These massive infrastructure investments aim to create sustainable jobs, improve regional trade, and make travel much easier for ordinary citizens.
The long-awaited Keta Port project has successfully cleared a major regulatory hurdle after a series of technical assessments. The Environmental Protection Agency officially granted the necessary environmental permit for the coastal project after concluding that the port operations will not harm the local ecosystem.

The construction of the main administrative and operational block is already eighty percent complete, with workers targeting January 2027 for total completion. The final port facility will feature modern cargo terminals, a world-class shipyard for repairing broken ships, and standard transit roads connecting the harbor straight to the national highway network.
The government has launched a strategic master plan to revive the Ho Airport after years of zero maintenance and total neglect. Technicians have successfully restored stable electricity supply to the terminal by installing a brand-new power transformer with support from regional authorities.
President John Dramani Mahama has directed that the facility become a multi-purpose aviation academy to train young pilots, aircraft engineers, and technicians. The state is currently partnering with a private investor from the region to build secure aircraft hangars and a standard repair center to service private business jets from across the West African sub-region.
Inland water transportation safety is receiving a massive boost following strict directives from the presidency to protect the lives of local traders. The Ministry of Transport has set up the first-ever Volta Lake Transport Safety Office at Kpando Torkor.
The new office is fully staffed with trained young professionals recruited directly from the local communities to monitor boat movements and enforce the mandatory use of life jackets. Additionally, the state has stationed a dedicated search-and-rescue vessel at the Kpando Torkor lakeside to respond swiftly to emergencies and distress calls.
To make vehicle registration and license acquisition stress-free for drivers, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority is expanding its physical offices across the region. A brand-new operational office has officially opened its doors at Vakpo within the Kpando Municipality.
Furthermore, the minister announced that the construction of another modern licensing office will commence very soon at Hohoe to serve the northern territories of the region. By bringing these essential public services closer to the doorsteps of the populace, the government is successfully eliminating long travel times and stopping the activities of illegal middleman operators.
