The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has postponed the reopening of the university for the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely.
The reopening was originally scheduled for October 13, 2026. However, university management has announced that the date will no longer stand.
According to management, the decision follows the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The strike has affected the university’s effective operations and administration, making it difficult for the institution to proceed with its planned reopening.
KNUST management said the postponement was necessary because of the impact of the industrial action on the university’s administrative activities.
The development could affect students who were preparing to return to campus for the new academic year, as well as fresh students making arrangements for their studies.
Parents and guardians may also need to adjust their plans while awaiting further communication from the university.
With the reopening postponed indefinitely, students are expected to monitor official university announcements for updates on a new date.
Management has not provided a new reopening date in the announcement. Students are therefore encouraged to rely on official KNUST communication for accurate information.
The situation highlights the impact industrial action by university administrators can have on academic planning and the smooth running of tertiary institutions in Ghana.
Further updates are expected as the university responds to developments surrounding the GAUA strike.
