Drivers and traders at the popular Kumasi Station in Koforidua are raising a strong alarm. They want an immediate stop to the installation of a new telecommunications mast right inside the busy transport terminal. “Remove the mast; we don’t want it,” the angry operators shouted, pointing out that the structure poses severe danger to everyone in the area.
Safety remains the biggest concern for these workers. A heavy iron mast standing in the middle of a crowded station creates serious risks, especially during heavy rains or stormy weather. Transport hubs handle hundreds of vehicles and thousands of passengers every single day. Placing a massive steel tower in such a tight space increases the chance of physical accidents and structural failures.
Beyond safety, the station is already choking with traffic congestion. Space is extremely tight for mini-buses, commercial taxis, and passengers moving around. Adding a giant base structure takes away precious parking spaces and loading zones. Drivers now spend extra time trying to maneuver their vehicles, which causes unnecessary traffic build-up along the main roads.
Traders who sell near the construction site also fear for their daily livelihood. Many worry that radiation concerns or fear of accidents will push passengers away from their shops. City authorities and telecom operators must step in quickly to relocate this project to a safer, non-residential area. Public safety and proper town planning must always come before corporate expansion.
