MTN Group Unveils Major Leadership Overhaul to Accelerate Ambition 2030

MTN Group has announced a significant restructuring of its executive leadership team to drive its long-term digital and financial growth. This strategic move involves several high-level promotions designed to support the company’s ambitious five-year growth blueprint.

The cornerstone of this transition is the promotion of Mitwa Ng’ambi, currently the CEO of MTN Côte d’Ivoire, to the role of Group Chief People and Culture Officer. She will join the Group Executive Committee by September 1, 2026, replacing the retiring veteran Paul Norman.

Paul Norman is stepping down after a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades at the Johannesburg-headquartered multinational. His departure marks the end of an era for the company, as the leadership team prepares for its next phase of expansion.

Ms. Ng’ambi’s new appointment has initiated a cascade of leadership changes across MTN’s West and East African subsidiaries. Abbad Reda, the CEO of MTN Zambia, will now lead MTN Côte d’Ivoire to fill the vacancy created by Ms. Ng’ambi’s promotion.

Larry Annetts, a long-serving corporate veteran, will step into the role of CEO for MTN Zambia. Mr. Annetts brings nearly 29 years of experience within the group to this new assignment.

These appointments are expected to take full operational effect no later than September 1, 2026. MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita expressed confidence that this new team will successfully execute the Ambition 2030 strategy.

The new executives possess deep expertise in navigating volatile emerging markets across the African continent. Many of them, including Ms. Ng’ambi and Mr. Reda, have previously held critical leadership roles within the Ghanaian telecommunications sector.

Ms. Ng’ambi has accumulated over 15 years of experience leading operations in several countries, including Ghana, Rwanda, and Cameroon. Her background includes successfully executing complex business turnarounds and digital transformations.

Mr. Reda is widely recognized for his customer-centric approach and operational turnaround skills. His previous tenure at MTN Ghana was instrumental in driving market share recovery and commercial innovation.

The refreshed Ambition 2030 agenda aims to leverage structural growth opportunities in digital connectivity and fintech services. By promoting talent from within, MTN underscores the strength of its internal succession planning protocols.

Market analysts anticipate a smooth transition as these newly designated leaders prepare for their responsibilities. The company remains focused on delivering sustainable value while expanding financial inclusion across sub-Saharan Africa.
