Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has officially resigned from his high profile position.Speaking at an emergency press conference in Abuja on Thursday August twenty seventh 2026, he confirmed that he and his entire board decided to step down.This major development comes after intense public pressure regarding the recent decline in national team performances.
The football administration faced severe backlash following the Super Falcons failing to reach the two thousand and twenty seven FIFA Women’s World Cup.That historic disappointment ended an unbroken streak of appearances that began back in nineteen ninety one.Compounding matters further, anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC and ICPC opened investigations into how the federation handled multi billion naira government intervention funds.
Stakeholders across the continent watched closely as mounting governance concerns forced leadership to rethink their positions. Mr Gusau maintained that his choice to exit aimed to restore peace and allow fresh hands to manage the sport. Nigerian football now faces an uncertain transitional phase with crucial upcoming elections scheduled to hold in Nasarawa State.
