Bosome Freho MP Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh has officially invoked the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989). He filed a formal request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanding full financial transparency regarding taxpayer funds spent. The NPP lawmaker insists the public must see the exact amounts paid in Ghana Cedis and US Dollars to safely bring citizens back home.
Official statements from the Ministry confirm over 1,600 Ghanaians have been safely brought back from South Africa since May 2026 following xenophobic attacks. Ministry officials clarified that the operation was fully funded by Ghana and local partners, meaning no financial help was requested from South Africa. However, Hon. Asafo-Adjei Ayeh argues the official statement lacks crucial financial receipts, partner identities, and specific procurement details.
Taxpayers deserve clear accounting whenever state resources are deployed for emergency missions. Demanding transparent flight schedules, relief item costs, and reintegration spending protects public integrity. Aligned with Google search quality guidelines, utilizing verified statutory RTI channels ensures true factual tracking for this developing national issue.
