The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants to suspend their campaign activities immediately.
The directive applies to aspirants, their agents and supporters ahead of the party’s parliamentary primaries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said the party had received reports of early campaigning in some constituencies.
The party warned that such activities violate its rules and Code of Conduct. It said early campaigning could create an unfair advantage and affect unity within the party.
Under the directive, aspirants must stop displaying campaign posters, banners and billboards. They are also not allowed to organise rallies or tour constituencies to seek support.
The party has also banned meetings with polling station executives for campaign purposes. Aspirants and their supporters must not distribute gifts or offer inducements to delegates and party members.
Paid media campaigns and social media advertisements promoting aspirants are also prohibited.
The directive covers party officers at all levels, from polling stations to the national level. Members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON) have also been warned against promoting aspirants or supporting early campaigns.
The NPP warned that anyone who ignores the directive could face disciplinary action. Such action could affect their eligibility to contest in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
Constituency and regional executives have been tasked with ensuring that members follow the rules.
The party says it will announce the official timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries in due course.
For now, all prospective aspirants and their supporters are expected to stop campaigning until the party provides further direction.
