Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah, the founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has officially offered a public apology to the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye. This unexpected reconciliation attempt follows a fierce legal battle after the legislator dragged the popular cleric to court over severe defamation allegations.

Chale, political and legal observers across the country were caught off-guard when news broke about the pastor asking for forgiveness. The sudden turnaround highlights how quickly high-profile disputes can shift when real court actions enter the picture.

The drama started when Rev Owusu Bempah made public comments alleging that certain key New Patriotic Party figures were plotting an attack against his church premises. He specifically named Dr Nana Ayew Afriye alongside other party stalwarts, accusing them of organizing individuals to cause havoc.

Unwilling to let the serious accusations slide, the lawmaker filed a GH¢10 million defamation lawsuit at the High Court. Dr Ayew Afriye strongly denied the claims, stating that the public remarks damaged his personal character, legislative standing, and professional reputation as a medical doctor.

Faced with the mounting pressure of the court case, Rev Owusu Bempah extended an olive branch to the lawmaker, asking for genuine forgiveness and reconciliation. During a recent church service, the man of God urged political leaders to embrace humility, unity, and godly counsel.

The pastor acknowledged the tension created by his earlier statements and asked the MP to let peace prevail. He called on all political actors in the country to settle grievances amicably rather than letting disputes escalate into bitter long-term rivalries.

This legal clash serves as a clear warning to public commentators and religious figures regarding unverified statements. Under Ghanaian law, accusing public officers of criminal acts without strong evidence can lead to heavy civil litigation and serious financial penalties.

While the lawmaker has not publicly confirmed whether he will formally withdraw the lawsuit from court, the pastor’s apology opens the door for an out-of-court settlement. Ghanaian political watchers remain eager to see if Dr Ayew Afriye will fully accept the apology and drop the GH¢10 million claim.
