Ghanaian railway workers can finally breathe a sigh of relief following the long-awaited settlement of their financial dues. The Railway Workers Union of Ghana officially commended the government for clearing an astonishing twenty months of outstanding salary arrears. This massive payment covers the period from October 2024 right up to May 2026, bringing immense joy to homes across the country.
Life has not been easy for staff of the Ghana Railway Company Limited who endured severe financial distress over the past two years. Families struggled to pay school fees and buy basic food items while waiting for their hard-earned money to drop. Union leaders previously issued several strike notices and staged peaceful protests in Accra to press home their demands.
With the funds successfully hitting bank accounts on August 24, 2026, tension between labor unions and the transport ministry has finally eased. Workers can now channel their energy back into reviving our iconic rail transport system without financial worries hanging over their heads. Consistent payment of wages remains the easiest way to keep public sector employees motivated and productive.
