Darkness hangs over the Atewa East District following a devastating mining disaster at Asaman Tamfoe in the Eastern Region. A local pit caved in around eleven o’clock at night, trapping eleven individuals underground during an active shift. Quick action from two survivors who escaped the collapse alerted nearby residents to rush forward with emergency help.
Community volunteers joined forces with the Ghana National Ambulance Service and the Anyinam District Police Command for grueling overnight operations. Rescuers successfully pulled seven bodies from the heavy debris while search teams hunt for four remaining missing persons. Five victims hailed from Moseaso while two others came directly from the Asaman Tamfoe community.
Ernest Owusu Ntim representing the Atewa East District Security Council confirmed that formal assessments have begun to uncover the exact triggers behind this catastrophe. Local authorities continue urging extreme caution across all mining zones to prevent further loss of precious Ghanaian lives. Families mourning their lost relatives await final investigative findings as safety regulators evaluate the area.
