Real Madrid has called on UEFA to continue its investigation into the Negreira case following the latest development concerning the complaint filed by the Spanish club.
In an official statement, Real Madrid said UEFA has confirmed receipt of the complaint submitted by the club regarding payments made by FC Barcelona over a period of two decades to José María Enríquez Negreira, a former vice-president of Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees.
Real Madrid said its complaint contains extensive documentation and evidence concerning the payments and their potential impact on the integrity of football competitions and confidence in the refereeing system.
The club called on UEFA to proceed with the investigation as quickly as possible and complete the process before the relevant football authorities make their decisions.
Real Madrid stated that it considers the matter serious because of its potential implications for the principles governing European football.
Real Madrid Says It Will Cooperate With UEFA
The Spanish giants also confirmed that they will continue cooperating with UEFA throughout the investigation.
The club said it would take all actions available to it to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the payments.
Real Madrid emphasised the importance of integrity, transparency and fair play in European football.
The Negreira case concerns payments made by Barcelona to companies linked to Negreira, who served as vice-president of Spain’s refereeing committee for many years.
Barcelona has previously denied that the payments were made to influence refereeing decisions and has maintained that the payments were for technical reports and refereeing-related advice.
The investigation remains a matter for the relevant authorities, and the existence of an investigation does not by itself establish that sporting or criminal wrongdoing occurred.
Real Madrid’s latest statement indicates that the club intends to remain involved in the process as UEFA examines the complaint and the evidence submitted.
The next steps will depend on the outcome of UEFA’s investigation and any decisions taken by the competent authorities.
