Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority, Edward Obeng-Kenzo, has highlighted that continuous investment in power generation remains essential for our industrial future.
Speaking at the engineering lecture series in Accra on Monday, July 20, 2026, the power sector leader emphasized that modern factories cannot operate around the clock without stable energy. This clear message reminds policymakers that economic transformation requires solid infrastructure support rather than mere political speeches.
To meet the rising power demands of future manufacturing industries, the state power producer is actively modernizing its generation facilities. The authority is deploying smart grid technologies and expanding renewable solar energy investments across various regional sites.
These technical upgrades will ensure that our electrical grid stays clean, reliable, and adaptable to sudden industrial demand spikes. Logically, fixing power generation issues at the source protects local businesses from sudden blackouts that destroy factory machinery and ruin raw manufacturing materials.
The annual lecture organized by the Ghana Institution of Engineering brought together top policymakers, university researchers, and industry leaders. Speaking under the theme focusing on how power never sleeps, the VRA boss urged local engineers to function as an active national think tank.
He specifically asked engineering professionals to conduct comprehensive technical audits on electricity distribution networks nationwide. Performing thorough system audits will help identify old transmission cables and obsolete transformers that cause frequent light outs in our residential communities and industrial zones.
Edward Obeng-Kenzo dropped an inspiring statement by comparing the continuous flow of the Volta River to the nation’s developmental journey. He noted that while human beings need sleep at night, national economic progress and power generation must run continuously without stopping.
Executive Director of the institution, Dr Enyonam Kpekpena, stated that the lecture series aims to align state energy assets with national economic goals. Combining technical engineering expertise with strategic state policy guarantees that our local industries can compete favorably on the global market.
For small business operators like night bakers, cold store owners, and factory workers, reliable electricity directly protects their daily income. Operating a twenty-four hour production schedule allows companies to hire extra shift workers, creating thousands of real jobs for unemployed young graduates.
