A devastating dawn road accident at Anyinasin Junction on the Accra-Kumasi N1 highway has claimed four lives and left one person fighting for survival. The terrible collision happened around 5:20 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, when a commercial Toyota Voxy mini-bus smashed into a heavy-duty MAN Diesel trailer.
The impact completely crushed the Toyota Voxy vehicle into a twisted metal frame, killing three male passengers and one female victim right on the spot. Emergency rescue teams rushed the single surviving male passenger to the Kibi Government Hospital for urgent medical care.
Officers at the Bunso Fire Station received an emergency distress call at 5:21 a.m. and deployed a seven-member rescue crew to the crash scene within fourteen minutes. Firefighters worked tirelessly using heavy cutting tools to extract victims trapped deep inside the wrecked Voxy chassis.
The fire crew successfully pulled out the sole surviving victim before handing the entire accident zone over to the Ghana Police Service for technical investigations. Their quick intervention also helped clear shattered debris off the international corridor, restoring smooth vehicle movement for morning commuters.
While police investigators continue working to establish the exact cause of the fatal crash, preliminary reports suggest risky overtaking maneuvers during low visibility contributed to the head-on hit. Drivers often push high speeds along the Eastern stretch of the N1 highway before dawn breaking.
The Toyota Voxy, bearing registration number GR 9430-26, suffered total destruction from the violent impact. Meanwhile, the heavy MAN Diesel trailer with registration number GS 4064-26 sustained severe structural damage across its front cabin compartment.
This latest tragedy highlights the persistent road safety dangers along Ghana’s busiest commercial highway corridor. Transport experts repeatedly warn commercial drivers against driving fatigued, speeding through junctions, and carrying out blind overtaking maneuvers during early morning journeys.
Community members and frequent travelers are calling on the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to increase highway patrols and set up speed checks around Anyinasin. Exercising maximum caution behind the wheel remains the only reliable way to prevent preventable loss of life on our roads.
