Get your yellow gallons and buckets ready because the taps are going completely dry. Ghana Water Limited just announced a major three day water supply disruption starting today Thursday August 6 to Saturday August 8 2026. If you live in parts of the Greater Accra or Eastern regions you definitely need to start storing water right away to avoid any serious frustration.
The main reason for this sudden shortage is a critical maintenance exercise at the Kpong Water Treatment Plant. Engineers from the water company have discovered over 300 metres of very weak transmission pipelines that urgently need replacement. Leaving these old pipes in the ground could cause massive bursts and waste precious treated water. So management took the bold decision to close the system temporarily to fix the problem permanently.
This water cut will heavily affect many popular communities along the eastern corridor. Residents living in Ashaiman, Spintex, Tema, Sakumono, and Teshie will feel the heat. Also people in Nungua, Dawhenya, Prampram, and Afienya should expect empty taps. In the Eastern Region areas like Kpong, Akuse, Somanya, and Atimpoku are completely part of the affected zone.
Ghana Water Limited assures everyone that their technical team will work day and night to finish the pipe replacement on schedule. The company advises households to use whatever water they have stored very wisely during this tight period. Also the water authorities strongly encourage hospitals and essential service providers to arrange alternative water plans immediately.
This short pain will eventually bring long term gains for all customers. Replacing the weak twenty one inch and forty two inch pipes means better water pressure and fewer surprise shortages in the future. Normal water supply will bounce back as soon as the engineers finish connecting the brand new pipes this Saturday. Until then please manage your stored water like pure gold!
