The streets of Accra are completely buzzing today as the New Patriotic Party (NPP)hits the road for their massive demonstration. Supporters have painted the entire capital in party colors for this much anticipated protest dubbed Democracy Under Attack. The demonstrators have gathered in their numbers to voice out their deep frustrations against the current administration.
Henry Nana Boakye who we all affectionately call Nana B is leading the charge from the front. The hardworking National Organiser previously confirmed that absolutely nothing would stop this peaceful march. He urged all party faithful and lovers of pure democracy to step out boldly and make their voices heard clearly.
The main fuel behind this massive anger is what the NPP strongly describes as selective justice. The leadership believes the current government uses state institutions to hunt down political opponents while protecting its own people. They simply want the system to apply the law equally to every citizen regardless of party colors.
Many NPP members are still furious about recent court decisions that favored government officials. They also complain bitterly about the sudden arrests of their own communicators. According to Nana B this whole exercise goes beyond mere politics because it touches the very survival of our beloved country.
Security forces remain very alert across the main routes leading to the capital center. The Ghana Police Service has deployed enough men to protect the peaceful protesters and direct traffic safely. Organizers have strongly warned everyone against any form of violence or property destruction during the march.
This powerful protest clearly shows that the political temperature in Ghana is rising steadily. It will be very interesting to see how the government officially responds to these heavy allegations of political persecution.
