19 th August 2026 – On the occasion of World Photography Day, I extend my heartfelt respect and gratitude
to media photojournalists across the world for their courage, dedication and invaluable contribution to
journalism.

From war zones and conflict areas to devastating storms, natural disasters and major global events,
photojournalists often place themselves in challenging and dangerous situations to document what is
happening and bring those powerful moments before the world.

We also remember with deep respect and sorrow the photojournalists who have lost their lives in the
line of duty. They gave their lives while fulfilling their responsibility to document the truth and share the
realities of the world with others.

World Photography Day is therefore not only an occasion to celebrate the art and power of photography, but
also an opportunity to recognize the people behind the camera—the dedicated photojournalists whose work
helps the world witness, understand and remember.

The World Media Organization salutes all media photojournalists for their courage, professionalism
and service to journalism, and pays tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of
duty.
