Darkness truly fell on the capital city early this morning as a massive road accident claimed many precious lives. A horrific multiple vehicle collision occurred at the Ofankor barrier area in Accra. The tragic incident happened around four o’clock at dawn on the busy N6 highway stretch. Local commuters and drivers woke up to a complete nightmare on the road.
Official reports from the Ghana National Service Fire confirm that eleven people lost their lives on the spot. Another thirteen individuals sustained serious injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital quickly. Seven different vehicles were heavily involved in this terrible crash including commercial buses and heavy trucks. It is very heartbreaking to see families losing their loved ones in such a sudden manner.
Accidents on our major highways continue to rob the nation of brilliant human resources every single year. Speeding drivers and reckless overtaking often turn ordinary morning journeys into fatal tragedies. Drivers must always remember that our roads are not racing tracks where you test your vehicle limits. Saving lives should always come first before any rush to reach a destination.
Emergency response teams from the fire service and police arrived promptly to manage the chaotic scene. They worked tirelessly to clear the wreckage and transport the injured victims to the Achimota Hospital. Heavy traffic gridlock built up quickly across the entire stretch of Ofankor as curious onlookers gathered around. Authorities are currently investigating the exact root cause of this massive collision at the Ofankor barrier.
