Road accidents continue to break families across the country and leave deep pains behind. The recent multi vehicle crash at the Ofankor barrier on August thirteenth left twelve people dead and twenty two others injured in hospitals. Citizens are asking serious questions about why our major highways remain death traps.
Felix Owusu who works as Senior Planning Manager at the National Road Safety Authority shared critical insights on the tragedy. He pointed out that flat and smooth modern stretches tempt motorists to drive past legal speed limits. When drivers throw caution to the wind on fine roads disasters happen in seconds.
Another massive problem that the authority raised involves poor street lighting across major cities and highways. Pitch black roads make it nearly impossible for drivers to spot pedestrians or broken vehicles at night. Fixing these dark spots remains vital to stopping avoidable knockdowns and nighttime collisions.
Authorities also need an open national conversation regarding where commercial tricycles and motorcycles operate. Clear rules must define specific routes for these riders to protect everyone sharing the asphalt. Protecting human lives requires strict engineering measures instead of depending only on warning signs.
