The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has deployed an enforcement taskforce to the Central Business District to tackle commercial drivers charging unapproved transport fares.Commuters frequently face arbitrary price jumps during rush hours when desperate passengers scramble for limited vehicles. City authorities emphasize that illegal price hikes worsen economic hardships for everyday workers and families.

Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey of AMA strongly warned trotro and taxi operators against exploiting citizens who commute early in the morning or late at night. Drivers must strictly stick to official fare lists authorized by regulatory bodies instead of inventing arbitrary prices. Unlawful price increases violate local assembly bylaws and burden ordinary household budgets unnecessarily.

Field inspectors will continue random checks across major transport terminals and principal streets to protect vulnerable passengers from extortion. Drivers caught flouting these directives will face immediate prosecution through the municipal courts without compromise. Citizens are encouraged to report extortionate drivers so authorities can maintain absolute fairness across the capital.
