The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has refused to shift its ground regarding a strict one month ultimatum given to occupants at Agbogbloshie. Leadership of the Konkomba Yam Market begged the city authorities to reconsider building the proposed twenty four hour economy market on their current business space. Despite these heavy appeals, city officials insist the redevelopment project must move forward as planned to transform the capital.
Traders fear losing their daily bread and customer base if they pack out without proper alternative arrangements. Public Relations Officer Gilbert Ankrah told Channel One News that the Assembly has held several dialogue sessions with affected groups. He remains very hopeful that total cooperation will prevent any stubborn clashes when the final moving day arrives.
City bosses visited the designated relocation grounds over the weekend to inspect rapid infrastructural preparations on site. Officials want peaceful compliance rather than chaotic confrontations while executing government policy agendas. Affected business owners must embrace the bigger picture because proper urban modernization requires bold temporary sacrifices from everyone involved.
