Apple is preparing to drop a brand new smart home hub on October 13, 2026, according to recent industry reports. The long-awaited device, internally code-named J490, represents Apple’s biggest attempt yet to claim the center of our living rooms and kitchens.

Tech enthusiasts across Ghana and the world have waited years for a dedicated Apple smart display. Amazon and Google have dominated this space with the Echo Show and Nest Hub, but Apple aims to change the game. The new launch event is also expected to feature updates to the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini.

Classic Design Meets Modern Display Technology

The new smart home hub borrows design inspiration directly from the iconic, classic iMac G4. It features a square six-inch touch display resting on a circular speaker base via a polished metal arm. You can easily tilt the screen forward or backward to get the best viewing angle in your kitchen or living space.

Unlike portable iPads, this hub is built strictly as a fixed household fixture. It skips internal batteries and physical volume buttons entirely, relying on a continuous USB-C power connection and smart voice controls. Apple is also developing a wall-mounted variant designed to fit cleanly into tight spaces where a countertop stand might not work.

Smart Recognition for the Entire Household

Sharing a home device can get messy, but Apple built this system to handle multi-user spaces smartly. The hub relies on built-in facial and voice recognition to identify exactly who is looking at the screen. Once it knows it is you, it instantly loads your personal calendar, reminder lists, and recent messages.

If a visitor or relative steps up to the screen, the device switches to a dedicated visitor mode. This automatically hides private messages and personal schedules, keeping your sensitive data safe without locking visitors out of basic smart home light switches or music controls.

Next-Gen Siri AI Powers the Whole Experience

The biggest delay behind this product was waiting for Apple’s upgraded, context-aware Siri AI to be fully ready. The hub relies on Siri to handle natural, conversational requests without force-feeding you exact command phrases.

You can ask the hub to pull up cooking recipes, initiate FaceTime calls with family, or play music through connected HomePod speakers. The visual software blends elements from Apple Watch, iPad, and Apple TV interfaces, giving you clean widgets, customizable clock faces, and smooth photo slideshows.

Expected Pricing and Global Market Expectations

Reports point toward a target price tag around $350 at launch. While this sits higher than basic entry-level smart speakers, Apple is positioning the device as a premium home command center built on strong data privacy standards.

Tech shoppers in Ghana and across global markets will want to watch the October 13 presentation closely. Beyond the central display, new hardware refreshes to the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini could offer lower-cost pathways into Apple’s updated home ecosystem.
