The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have officially appointed a five-member search committee to recruit the next head coach for the Black Stars. This decisive move follows the sudden exit of Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz after a shaky start in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Chale, Ghanaian football fans are demanding real accountability and quick action, so the pressure is fully on this panel to deliver a top-tier tactic expert before the next international window.

Former GFA Vice-President Fred Pappoe leads the newly formed technical committee as chairman. His deep experience in football governance brings structure to the selection process.

Legendary former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah joins the panel alongside Anthony Baffoe, the General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG). Legal practitioner Agbesi Dzakpasu and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah complete the five-man team.

Together, this group combines technical football experience, legal precision, and athletic performance tracking to evaluate potential candidates.

The committee operates under clear terms of reference to identify, evaluate, and recommend the best trainer for the senior national team. The panel must submit its final assessment report to the GFA executive council by Friday, October 9, 2026.

With crucial qualifying matches against Somalia scheduled for mid-November, the chosen coach will have minimal time to organize the squad. The GFA and Sports Ministry promise a transparent, merit-based hiring process to ensure the right tactical leader takes charge.

The appointment of this search panel forms part of wider structural reforms agreed between the Sports Ministry and the GFA. Both institutions aim to overhaul national team management, strengthen local player scouting, and streamline youth team development.

Reducing national team management committees from five members down to three will improve administrative efficiency and cut down extra operational expenses. Restoring fan confidence remains the ultimate goal as the committee works fast to fix the technical bench.
