he flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has boldly declared that the party will not wait until election victory before deciding how to govern. Speaking at the NPP National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, he revealed that policy committees are already drafting the party’s proposed 2029 governance program.

Chale, political watchers across Ghana know that early preparation is key to solid governance. Instead of rushing policy ideas during peak campaign season, the NPP leadership is taking early lessons from their 2024 election loss to build a fully structured policy blueprint.

Dr Bawumia highlighted that policy committees have begun active consultations with key stakeholders across various sectors. The party is gathering direct feedback from market women, business owners, farmers, grassroots supporters, and youth groups nationwide.

This proactive move aims to create evidence-based public policies that address real economic needs rather than hasty campaign promises. By shaping their agenda early, the NPP hopes to present a polished, realistic governance plan that appeals to the majority of Ghanaian voters.

The decision to start early stems from lessons learned during the last general election. Dr Bawumia emphasized that effective governance requires deep consultation, careful policy design, and matching good intentions with solid practical execution.

Alongside policy planning, the NPP Delegates Conference elected a new national executive team tasked with steering the party toward the 2028 elections. The party leadership is uniting its grassroots base to present a formidable opposition that holds the current administration accountable.

Dr Bawumia also criticized current government policies, urging state authorities to protect local businesses, defend fundamental civil liberties, and complete stalled national infrastructure projects. He reaffirmed his commitment to clean, issue-based politics and equal justice for all citizens.

As political activities intensify ahead of future electoral cycles, the NPP’s early policy preparation signals a shift toward structured governance strategy. Whether this early groundwork will win back voter confidence remains an exciting story to watch.
