The High Court has ordered lawyers for Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to file a motion by October 30, 2026, seeking to recall the former General Manager of Akonta Mining for further questioning.
The directive comes as the trial involving Wontumi and alleged illegal mining activities in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve continues.
The application is expected to formally request permission for the former manager, Edward Akwasi Ekuoko, to return to the witness box.
Former Akonta Mining Manager Testifies
Ekuoko previously appeared in court as a prosecution witness in the case.
During his testimony, he alleged that Wontumi had instructed Akonta Mining to undertake mining activities in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve without the required permits.
His testimony forms part of the evidence presented by the prosecution. The allegations remain subject to the court’s assessment as the trial proceeds.
Defence Team Faces October 30 Deadline
The court has given Wontumi’s lawyers until Friday, October 30, to file the motion.
However, filing the application does not automatically mean the former manager will be recalled. The court must first consider the request and determine whether further questioning will be permitted.
The outcome could influence the next stage of proceedings as the defence continues to examine the evidence presented in the case.
Wontumi’s Illegal Mining Trial Continues
The case centres on allegations of illegal mining activities within the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.
At a hearing on Monday, October 26, police investigator Chief Inspector Eugene Akpo Glover testified during cross-examination about his investigations into the alleged activities.
The trial was adjourned to Tuesday, October 27, for continuation.
Attention is now on whether Wontumi’s legal team will meet the October 30 deadline and what decision the court will make regarding the proposed recall of the former Akonta Mining manager.
