A highly shocking and deeply heartbreaking incident has thrown the quiet community of Bamahu into absolute state of sorrow. Police officers in the Wa Municipality have officially launched deep investigations after the lifeless body of a newborn baby boy was found abandoned at a hotel refuse dump.
The tragic discovery has sparked massive conversations across the Upper West Region regarding child abandonment and community vigilance. Local authorities are moving rapidly to gather vital intelligence, hoping to identify the individual responsible for this unthinkable act before clues go cold.
The devastating event unfolded on Friday morning at the premises of the popular Sem-B Hotel located within the Bamahu suburb. A dedicated sanitation staff of the hospitality facility made the discovery while executing her standard morning cleaning routines.
The hotel cleaner, Fabiana Dery, explained that she had just finished sweeping the entire compound and went ahead to empty a large dustbin sitting right in front of the main hotel gate. As she prepared to dump the waste and set the refuse on fire, she spotted what clearly looked like a fresh human leg wrapped inside a polythene bag. Frightened and shaking, she immediately raised an alarm to call her fellow coworkers to the scene.
The owner of the hospitality facility, Dr. Paul Bangniyel, acted with high professionalism the moment his workers briefed him on the situation. He strictly instructed his staff members to step back and freeze the entire scene to protect sensitive forensic evidence.
Dr. Bangniyel immediately placed an emergency call to the Wa Municipal Police Command and the local Environmental Health Unit. Security operatives arrived at the scene shortly after to examine the body and safely transport the deceased infant to the municipal hospital mortuary for a professional autopsy.
The hotel management revealed that this is the first time such an occurrence has taken place in their fifteen years of operating the hospitality business. Investigators are currently looking at two logical possibilities to crack the case.
The positioning of the refuse dump close to the main road suggests that a passerby might have secretly dropped the polythene bag under the cover of darkness. However, detectives are not ruling out internal angles, they are actively auditing the hotel guest check-in logs and interviewing room service workers to ensure no guest delivered a baby secretly inside any of the hotel rooms.
The Assembly Member for the Bamahu Electoral Area, Adams Yahaya Gigah, visited the scene to console the traumatized workers and express his disappointment. He noted that the sad incident has dealt a heavy blow to the positive public image of the entire electoral area.
The local politician praised the hotel operators for executing the right legal procedures by involving law enforcement agencies swiftly. He urged residents, especially landlords hosting students and young couples in the neighborhood, to look out for anyone who was recently heavily pregnant but suddenly has no child to show, providing such critical pointers secretly to the police to assist their inquiry.
