The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has requested nine years of financial, tax and operational records from Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, a law firm linked to the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
In a letter dated October 30, 2026, EOCO invoked Section 19 of the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804), to formally request the documents as part of its ongoing investigations.
The firm has been given until Friday, November 6, to submit the requested information.
Records requested by EOCO
According to the letter, the investigative body is seeking the firm’s audited financial statements covering the period from 2017 to 2025.
EOCO has also requested evidence of tax payments made to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), including corporate tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), levies and withholding tax.
The firm is further expected to provide details of all bank accounts it operated during the period, together with the corresponding bank statements.
Other documents requested include copies of the firm’s operating permit issued by the relevant local assembly, evidence of its renewal and a list of employees who worked with the firm during the period, if any.
EOCO says the information is required to support its investigations and has asked the firm to cooperate with the process.
Connection to the SIC Life investigation
The request forms part of EOCO’s wider investigation involving Mr Baffour Awuah and the state-owned SIC Savings and Loans.
The MP, who is a lawyer and has been identified as a senior partner at the firm, is facing criminal charges relating to alleged conspiracy, intentionally causing financial loss to the state and money laundering.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before an Accra High Court on October 3, 2026.
EOCO’s request for records covering 2017 to 2025 also extends beyond the period of the transaction at the centre of the court case. Prosecutors have said SIC Life engaged the law firm in May 2020.
The MP has previously disputed aspects of EOCO’s account of how the investigation was handled. The allegations remain subject to the ongoing legal process.
The latest request does not, on its own, establish wrongdoing by the law firm or the MP. The investigation and court proceedings are continuing.
