Ghana Exim Bank has commissioned a newly constructed astro turf facility at Hogbe Park in Anloga in the Volta Region as part of activities marking the Bank’s 10th anniversary.
The project forms part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at promoting youth empowerment, sports development and community growth.
The ultra-modern facility, which was constructed to international standards, has been named the Awoamefia Togbui Sri III Astro Turf Park in honour of the Overlord of Anlo State, in recognition of his role in facilitating the project.
The commissioning ceremony marked an important milestone in Ghana Exim Bank’s efforts to support development within communities through investments in sports and recreational infrastructure.
Mr Sylvester Adinam Mensah, Deputy Chief Executive of Ghana Exim Bank, said the completion of the facility demonstrated the Bank’s commitment to supporting communities and creating opportunities for young people.
He said the project was not merely a ceremonial undertaking but represented a deliberate investment in a community that had long lacked a modern sporting facility capable of supporting competitive football and organised sporting activities.
According to him, the new astro turf would provide residents, particularly young people, with improved access to a suitable environment for sporting activities.
The facility is expected to provide a platform for football matches, training programmes, youth competitions and other organised sporting events in Anloga and surrounding communities.
Mr Mensah noted that Hogbe Park had served the community for decades, hosting football matches and social events. However, the facility had become inadequate as sporting standards and community needs evolved.
The construction of the new astro turf is therefore expected to improve the quality of sporting activities hosted at the park while providing a more suitable environment for athletes and young people.
The investment also reflects the growing recognition of sports infrastructure as an important component of youth development.
Access to modern sporting facilities gives young people opportunities to develop their skills, participate in organised competitions and pursue careers in sports.
The facility could also support community events and youth programmes beyond football, creating a broader space for social interaction and community engagement.
Ghana Exim Bank said the project was part of its wider CSR commitment to supporting communities and contributing to sustainable development.
The Bank’s 10th anniversary provided an opportunity to highlight some of the initiatives undertaken as part of its corporate social responsibility activities.
The commissioning of the astro turf in Anloga also strengthens the Bank’s engagement with the local community and demonstrates the potential role of financial institutions in supporting social and economic development beyond their core banking activities.
For Anloga residents, the facility is expected to provide a significant improvement over the previous sporting infrastructure at Hogbe Park.
Young footballers and local clubs will have access to a modern playing surface suitable for regular training and competitive matches.
The facility could also help encourage greater participation in sports among young people in the area by providing a dedicated and properly developed venue.
The involvement of the traditional leadership in facilitating the project further highlights the importance of collaboration between financial institutions, local authorities, traditional leaders and communities in delivering development projects.
The naming of the facility after Awoamefia Togbui Sri III recognises the contribution of the traditional authority to the project’s development.
The commissioning comes at a time when youth development remains an important priority for communities across Ghana.
Sports infrastructure can provide young people with constructive activities while creating opportunities for talent development and community participation.
Modern sporting facilities can also support local tournaments and attract sporting activities to communities, potentially generating economic opportunities for small businesses operating around such events.
For Anloga and neighbouring communities, the new astro turf is therefore expected to serve both sporting and social purposes.
