Social media can really cook up some wild stories these days. Just recently a massive rumor spread like wildfire claiming that Dominic Bonsu of Dominic Bonsu Ventures ran away with a whopping GH¢200 million.
The viral posts also painted a movie picture claiming that this same businessman was a former bodyguard to Sammy Gyamfi who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.
People shared the news everywhere thinking they had uncovered the biggest scandal of the year. But the Ghana Gold Board affectionately known as GoldBod quickly stepped in on Monday August 3 2026 to shut down the noise.
GoldBod released a very strong official statement calling the viral publication entirely false and malicious. The board clearly stated that the stories were completely cooked up to mislead the general public.
Let us look at the real facts directly from the institution. The board confirmed that Dominic Bonsu has never worked as a personal security officer or bodyguard for Sammy Gyamfi at any point in time.
The agency also laughed off the idea that they gave or lost GH¢200 million to this businessman. GoldBod explained that they never advanced such an amount of money to Dominic Bonsu Ventures.
So what is the real truth behind all this drama? Logic shows that this is just a clear case of fake news trying to distract everyone from a serious legal matter.
The actual story is that GoldBod suspended the gold trading licence of Dominic Bonsu Ventures. The company allegedly broke the terms and conditions of its operating licence and ignored the trading directives of the board.
Because GoldBod takes the Ghana Gold Board Act of 2025 very seriously they investigated the company. Their strict enforcement action led to the arrest of Dominic Bonsu.
The Accra High Court then remanded him into lawful custody where he currently faces ongoing legal proceedings. It seems some folks created the fake theft story just to distort the ongoing enforcement action.
GoldBod has firmly warned the public to ignore these fabricated claims completely. The board wants everyone to rely only on official information and asked bloggers to verify facts before rushing to publish.
GoldBod remains fully committed to cleaning up the gold trading sector without fear or favour. Next time you see a juicy scandal on your feed you should definitely wait for the official facts.
