A massive early morning fire has completely destroyed the popular Asawase Pelele slum located in the Asokore Mampong Municipality. The sudden inferno has left hundreds of scrap dealers, head porters, and young families completely homeless.
The blaze began around 5:30 a.m. and quickly swept through approximately 300 wooden makeshift structures. Distressed residents woke up to thick smoke, forcing many to run for their lives without saving any personal belongings or hard-earned cash.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service responded quickly after receiving a distress call at 6:03 a.m. However, congested access routes and tightly packed structures severely delayed their ability to reach the heart of the flames immediately.
Officials eventually contained the fire by 7:12 a.m., preventing further destruction to nearby communities. Preliminary reports suggest an electrical water heater may have triggered the fire, though official investigations remain ongoing.
Fortunately, authorities have confirmed zero deaths or severe injuries from the tragic incident. Displaced victims are currently counting their losses while appealing to disaster management agencies and community leaders for urgent relief items.
