President John Dramani Mahama officially commissioned the third phase of the Zonda Tec Ghana Assembly Plant located in Tema. This mega expansion marks a massive turning point for local manufacturing in Ghana.
Instead of relying heavily on imported second-hand vehicles, the country is shifting toward building them right here at home.
From Humble Beginnings to Giant Steps
The CEO of Zonda Tec, Madam Yang Yang, shared an inspiring story during the grand event. She noted that the enterprise started humbly as a simple vehicle importing business back in 2010. Today, the company considers Ghana its second home and has successfully evolved into a top-tier vehicle assembly hub. Hard work truly pays off when vision meets opportunity.
Boosting Local Jobs and Capacity
The newly upgraded facility has sharply scaled up its production limits. It can now roll out approximately three thousand heavy and light vehicles every single year. President Mahama pointed out that this industrial leap will double direct jobs and generate about one thousand indirect roles across logistics and component supply chains.
Making Value Addition a Reality
During the ceremony, the President challenged company leaders to take things a step further by manufacturing spare parts locally. Doing so will keep more financial value inside the domestic economy instead of shipping it abroad. With dedicated training academies and technical scholarships already set up for young Ghanaians, the future of our auto sector looks very bright.
How The Salary Loan Scheme Will Work
The brilliant idea relies heavily on active collaboration between local manufacturing plants, commercial banks, and the government. Instead of paying heavy cash upfront, an eligible worker can select a vehicle and pay small amounts monthly straight from their salary. Think about teachers, nurses, doctors, and corporate office workers driving their own reliable cars home without breaking a sweat. Banks will design flexible long-term credit facilities that spread the total cost across a comfortable timeframe. This arrangement ensures that vehicle ownership shifts from being an elite luxury to a realistic milestone for everyday income earners.
Boosting Local Production At Tema
Zonda Tec has grown into a remarkable industrial success story right inside Tema Golf City. President Mahama challenged the company to move beyond mere assembly and start manufacturing essential vehicle parts locally. Making tyres, batteries, wiring harnesses, and seats right here in Ghana will create over one thousand solid jobs. When local factories source materials domestically, vehicle prices drop naturally and the national economy wins big.
Driving Toward An Electric Future
The vision does not stop at fuel-powered trucks and salon cars because electric mobility is already knocking on the door. Ghana boasts rich lithium deposits and growing renewable energy capacities that can power an electric vehicle revolution. From raw minerals to finished batteries and exported electric cars, the future is looking proudly Ghanaian.
