Parenting comes with so much stress but picking up a weapon against your own blood is simply unacceptable. The Assin Fosu District Court just sent a strong message to all parents regarding child discipline today. The court remanded a 28 year old trader named Monica Ampomah into police custody for three full weeks. This serious legal action happened because she allegedly inflicted deep cutlass wounds on her 10 year old daughter.
The details coming from the courtroom are honestly very heartbreaking and shocking to hear. According to details the mother noticed a whitish discharge in her child underwear. This situation persisted over a two month period which made the mother suspect terrible sexual abuse. Any normal parent would feel deep pain and anger upon discovering such a sensitive issue. However the way this trader handled the suspected abuse completely crossed the line of logic.
Instead of taking the Class Five pupil to the hospital or reporting to the police she chose absolute violence. Anger took over and Ampomah a mother allegedly beat the poor young girl severely with a cane and a metal rod. As if that was not painful enough she went further to slash her daughter with a sharp farming cutlass. The helpless girl suffered deep slashes on her head and hand including her finger.
Our justice system does not joke with child protection no matter how angry a parent feels. The district court judge remanded her to allow the police ample time to complete their serious investigations. We all hope the little girl gets the best medical care and proper counseling to heal from this trauma. Let this sad story remind every parent that violence is never the solution to complex household problems.
