Many Ghanaians returning home from South Africa after recent xenophobic attacks face a complete loss of their livelihood. Starting over from scratch in your homeland after losing everything abroad brings deep emotional and financial pain.
To lift this heavy burden, MTN Ghana has officially stepped up to support these returning citizens. The telecom giant doubled its initial GH¢10 million pledge, committing a total of GH¢20 million.
Board Chairman Dr. Ishmael Yamson explained that the money will establish a special fund aimed at long-term recovery. Rather than giving short-term emergency aid, the initiative focuses on helping returnees build sustainable small businesses and secure long-term independence.
Dr. Yamson openly expressed regret that MTN Ghana did not coordinate faster with government authorities. However, he firmly condemned the violence in South Africa, emphasizing that MTN stands in full solidarity with affected families.
This corporate social responsibility program complements government evacuation efforts. With over 1,000 citizens brought back home, this strategic fund brings genuine relief to families ready to rebuild their lives in Ghana.
