The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced guidelines for its forthcoming regional executive elections, including a strict ban on proxy voting and new security arrangements at polling centres.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said all eligible delegates must be physically present at their respective polling centres to cast their ballots.
The party made it clear that no delegate would be allowed to authorise another person to vote on their behalf.
“There shall be no proxy voting. Every eligible delegate must be physically present to cast his or her vote,” the statement said.
Three forms of identification approved
The NDC has also outlined the identification documents delegates must present for verification before voting.
According to the party, delegates will be required to provide any one of the following:
- A valid NDC Party Identification Card.
- An official accreditation document.
- An embossed photograph as captured in the approved voters’ register.
The requirement is intended to guide the validation process and ensure that only eligible delegates participate in the elections.
Voting to begin at 7:00 a.m.
The party has scheduled voting to begin at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.
However, delegates who are already in the queue by 4:00 p.m. will be allowed to cast their ballots, even if the process continues beyond the official closing time.
The NDC says the arrangement will ensure that eligible delegates who report to polling centres before the deadline are given the opportunity to vote.
Ghana Police to take charge of security
On security, the party has assigned sole responsibility for maintaining order at all election centres to the Ghana Police Service.
It has also directed that personal security details accompanying government officials or other individuals will not be allowed within designated voting areas.
The directive forms part of the security arrangements outlined by the party for the electoral exercise.
NDC appeals for peaceful elections
The NDC has urged aspirants, delegates, supporters and election officials to comply fully with the announced guidelines.
The party is also calling on all stakeholders to demonstrate discipline, restraint and responsibility throughout the process.
It said cooperation among members would be important in ensuring peaceful, credible and transparent elections that protect the democratic values and unity of the party.
The NDC’s published 2026 election timetable schedules the regional elections for November 14 and 15, 2026.
