Ever noticed how a few bad apples always ruin the bunch? IMO, that sums up the current headache facing community leaders in West Africa right now.
Leadership of the Nigerien community in Ghana recently appealed to the Ministry of the Interior to crack down hard on aggressive street beggars. Mohammad Abubakar Sadia, the Ashanti Regional Chief of the Nigerien Community, pointed out a frustrating reality. The Nigerien government actually provides solid social relief for its citizens back home.
Why the Current Situation Makes No Sense
People engaging in indiscriminate begging abroad possess zero valid excuses for their actions. Why hustle on busy Ghanaian intersections when legitimate support systems exist? Street begging tarnishes the proud image of an entire nation.
