An operations officer recently deployed to the West Mamprusi Municipality by the Inspector General of Police was allegedly caught having an affair with the wife of a local chief in Walewale.
The incident occurred on the night of Friday, May 29, 2026. Neighbors reportedly alerted the chief after observing an individual entering his wife’s room and remaining there from 8:00 PM until midnight. The woman involved has one child with the chief, who holds the title Gumdaana and is the son of the Wun-Naaba; the chief and his wife reside in separate houses.
Following the discovery, local residents apprehended the officer, and irate youth reportedly attempted to lynch him. He was eventually handed over to police at the Walewale charge office for interrogation. A friend of the chief, Alhaji Ibrahim, was credited with intervening to stop the residents from lynching the officer.
Traditional Settlement Demanded by Wungu Traditional Authority
The Paramount Chief of the Wungu Traditional Area, Naa Salma Mahamudu Issahaku, subsequently summoned the West Mamprusi Municipal Police Commander, ASP Seth Agyekum, to his palace to address the matter. During the meeting, the following occurred:
- The chief and his elders directed the commander to provide a cow, a ram, a red cock, a white cock, and GH¢5,000 as a traditional settlement to appease the gods.
- While the commander requested a reduction in the demand, the traditional authorities maintained their stance, stating that they were being lenient in the interest of peace.
- The commander acknowledged the demand and promised to relay it to the regional police commander.
- The traditional leadership expects the items to be provided within one week.
The Municipal Police Commander was accompanied by other officers and the West Mamprusi Municipal BNI boss during the visit to the palace.
