The Tema Regional Police Command recently executed an unbelievable operation that sounds like a movie script. Criminals thought they could outsmart the system by hiding millions of dollars worth of cocaine inside our everyday food. Well the police proved them completely wrong.
Officers intercepted a staggering amount of suspected cocaine secretly packed inside ordinary sacks of gari. You heard that right. The smugglers tried to use gari to export dangerous narcotics out of the country. This brilliant intelligence driven operation took place within the busy Tema Harbour area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Eric Asamoah Asiedu addressed the media to explain exactly how they pulled this off. He stated that his team acted swiftly on a credible tip off. They moved straight to a warehouse and found three men supervising the loading of a huge 40 foot container.
The suspects included a 31 year old Dutch national named Gilano Horwin alongside John Mensah Sabah and Alhaji Iddris Haruna. The police did a thorough search of the container and made a very shocking discovery. They uncovered exactly 866 parcels of white powdered substance neatly buried inside the bags of gari.
Authorities estimate the street value of this massive haul at a staggering $6.9 million. That is an insane amount of money just sitting inside staple food packaging but rather it’s cocaine. The police quickly arrested all three men and towed their white DAF truck to the regional headquarters for further investigation.
Drug trafficking is a very serious offense that destroys communities and ruins lives. We must really applaud the Ghana Police Service for their sharp eyes and dedication to duty. This $6.9 million seizure of cocaine sends a massive warning to all criminals operating around our ports. You cannot hide your illegal business from the authorities forever.
