Wrongfully Jailed Vendor Madam Ama Freed After Four Dark Years

Madam Ama

It is purely heartbreaking when an innocent person loses precious time behind bars for a crime they know absolutely nothing about. Sixty seven year old food vendor Madam Ama Forson just regained her freedom after spending four dark years and seven months in prison. She originally received a shocking eleven year sentence for a crime she never committed. The Accra High Court finally acquitted and discharged Madam Ama after establishing the raw truth.

The sad story of Madam Ama Forson exposes a very serious miscarriage of justice in our legal system. Reports indicate that a supposed customer allegedly hid illicit narcotic drugs among her belongings right before police officers arrived at her spot. The authorities arrested her and she eventually suffered a painful conviction while the real culprit walked away free. She lost almost five years of her life sleeping in a harsh prison cell under the current government.

Thankfully the amazing team at the POS Foundation stepped in to save her life through their In Prison Paralegal Programme. This special initiative trains inmates to deeply understand legal processes and boldly appeal wrongful convictions. Their timely intervention helped Madam Ama Forson safely challenge the unfair judgement that stole her joy. The foundation really brought hope to a vulnerable woman who lacked the financial power to hire expensive lawyers for her defense.

Now that Madam Ama is finally breathing fresh air many Ghanaians strongly believe she must sue the state for massive compensation. You cannot just waste almost five years of a citizen life and simply say sorry. Fortunately Charles Antwi Boahen from KAB FAM Ghana Limited came through like a true boss. He happily gifted her a heavy GH¢20,000 cheque to quickly start a new business and wipe her tears.

This whole drama should serve as a serious warning to our police investigators to always do their homework properly. They must dig deep before they throw innocent grandmothers into jail for things they know nothing about. We really thank God that Madam Ama Forson is finally back home in peace. We pray her new business booms so she can fully enjoy the rest of her beautiful life.
