Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports is set to invite the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry for Sports and Recreation to explain the Black Stars’ recent struggles.
The committee’s planned engagement follows Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars have lost their opening two Group C matches. Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, despite taking a two-goal lead.
Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Ernest Henry Norgbey, said the committee wants to understand what is happening within Ghana football, particularly regarding the Black Stars.
“We as a committee are yet to investigate the performance of the Black Stars in recent times,” Norgbey said in an interview with Akoma FM. He added that the committee plans to invite the GFA and the Sports Minister to examine the situation.
The planned meeting is expected to give the GFA and the Sports Ministry an opportunity to respond to questions about the national team’s recent performances and the wider administration of Ghana football.
Ghana currently has no points from its opening two AFCON qualifying matches, increasing concerns about the team’s campaign.
Norgbey has also discussed possible major changes to Ghana football, but he stressed that the committee first needs to understand the situation before deciding what measures may be necessary.
The Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports has a mandate to investigate and inquire into matters concerning youth and sports, including the activities and administration of relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
The engagement with the GFA and Sports Ministry is therefore expected to bring further attention to the challenges facing the Black Stars and Ghana football.
