Ghana Bans Bus Preaching: What Preachers and Passengers Must Know

Ghana bans preaching on buses with jail terms for offenders

Ghanaian commuters boarding trotro or VIP buses will no longer hear loud sermons on their journey. Parliament has strictly enforced traffic regulations that ban preaching and hawking inside moving public transport across the country.

The law treats preaching inside moving commercial vehicles as a public nuisance and safety threat. Authorities explain that loud preaching distracts drivers and creates discomfort for passengers traveling long distances.

Anyone caught preaching or selling goods inside moving public buses will pay fines ranging from GH¢120 to GH¢600. Courts can also hand offenders up to eight months in prison, or order both penalties depending on the severity.

Many commuters feel relieved because loud early morning bus sermons often cause headaches. However, some traveling preachers complain that the new ban restricts their evangelical mission to win souls for Christ.

Police officers and transport unions now monitor bus terminals to ensure strict compliance with the new directives. Drivers who permit illegal bus preaching on their vehicles risk severe legal penalties under the updated road regulations.
