“Apushkeleke” Hitmaker Kofi Debrah Accuses Patapaa and Lil Win of Copyright Infringement Over “Chop Money” Song
Ghanaian music artist Kofi Debrah, popularly known for his viral hit “Apushkeleke,” has accused fellow entertainer Patapaa and actor-turned-musician Lil Win of copyright theft and unauthorized song recreation involving his new song titled “Chop Money.”
In an explosive video making rounds on social media, Kofi Debrah revealed that he had initially approached Patapaa to collaborate on the song “Chop Money Rmx.” According to him, Patapaa agreed to the feature, and discussions began in good faith. However, weeks later, Kofi Debrah was shocked to discover that the very idea he had discussed with Patapaa had been reworked into a new version—without his knowledge or consent—featuring Patapaa and popular Kumawood star Lil Win.

Kofi Debrah expressed deep disappointment and frustration over what he described as blatant intellectual property theft. Upon identifying that the recreated track bore significant similarities to his original song concept for “Chop Money,” he immediately attempted to reach out to Patapaa to seek clarification.

To his surprise, Patapaa allegedly blocked Kofi Debrah on WhatsApp and disassociated himself from all groups to which he and Kofi Debrah belong, effectively cutting off any chance of resolving the matter privately.
“This was a song I shared with Patapaa to work on. I gave him the idea, and he agreed to feature on it. Then later, I hear him twist and recreate the same song out there, but this time it’s Patapaa and Lil Win. I tried calling him—he blocked me. WhatsApp, everything. It’s clear they took my idea and ran with it,” Kofi Debrah lamented in the video.
Feeling betrayed and ignored, Kofi Debrah has announced that he and his management team are considering legal action against both Patapaa and Lil Win. He emphasized that if the duo fails to reach out and amicably resolve the copyright dispute, they will face formal litigation.
“We are giving them the opportunity to do the right thing by contacting my team and settling this issue,” Kofi Debrah stated. “If not, we will take them to court. It’s not just about music; it’s about respecting intellectual property and being professional.”

Industry observers have also noted that this case underscores the urgent need for clearer contracts, documentation, and copyright protection in the local music space—especially in collaborative projects involving multiple artists.
As of now, neither Patapaa nor Lil Win has publicly responded to the allegations. Kofi Debrah and his team are urging both artists to come forward and settle the matter privately before it escalates further.
This brewing dispute adds to a growing list of copyright-related controversies in Ghana’s entertainment scene, where artists continue to grapple with issues of ownership, credit, and creative recognition.
