Adenta Building Collapse: Developer to Face Arrest Over Defied Stop-Work Order - LANMMA

The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LANMMA) intends to arrest the developer of a collapsed building in Adenta for defying official warnings. Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Ibrahim Faila Fuseini confirmed the owner ignored a stop-work order issued about a year ago regarding structural defects.

The developer received approval only for a single-storey structure rather than the two-storey building that ultimately fell. Despite clear directives to halt construction, the developer proceeded to add a second floor without authorization.

The disaster occurred on Wednesday evening, June 3, 2026, during a heavy downpour near the Da Yesu Ase Supermarket in the Adenta New Site area. The collapse trapped five occupants beneath the rubble, prompting an intensive search and rescue operation by the Ghana National Fire Service.

Four victims, identified as Fred Atagba, Solomon, Seyeram Dzigda, and David Dzigda, were rescued alive with injuries. Emergency teams successfully conveyed them to the 37 Military Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

A dog trapped in the debris was also found and rescued alive during the process. Tragically, the fifth victim, Margaret Kpeli, was retrieved from the wreckage in an unconscious state.

Her remains were handed over to the Adenta District Police for further investigation and preservation. MCE Ibrahim Faila Fuseini stated that the tragedy was entirely avoidable had the developer respected the municipal building regulations.

He emphasized that the Assembly will prosecute the developer to ensure the law bites for this act of defiance. Local officials are currently searching for the owner to face the consequences of his actions.

The Assembly’s engineer confirmed the site was flagged for structural issues long before the collapse occurred. The current investigation seeks to hold those responsible for the bypass of safety standards accountable.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with unauthorized building practices in Ghana. Local assemblies frequently urge property owners to adhere strictly to building codes to protect human lives during extreme weather.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious construction activities that deviate from approved plans to their local municipal offices. Ensuring structural integrity remains a shared responsibility between developers and municipal authorities to prevent future building collapses.
