Parliament’s Appointments Committee has officially vetted Court of Appeal judge, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah, for appointment to Ghana’s Supreme Court bench. This legal milestone follows her presidential nomination under Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.
During the vetting session, lawmakers questioned the experienced judge on key judicial matters. She addressed questions on structural legal reforms, impartiality, and her track record across both public and private sectors. Justice Bernasko Essah affirmed her dedication to the judicial oath and equal application of the law.
Her legal background includes decades of service as State Attorney, private legal counsel, High Court judge, and Court of Appeal justice. She also holds active roles with the International Association of Women Judges and leads initiatives on gender equity within the Judicial Service.
The Appointments Committee will submit its recommendation to the parliamentary floor for full consideration. If Parliament grants approval, she will join the Supreme Court bench to handle high-level constitutional and legal matters.
