Traders and commercial operators at Agbogbloshie in Accra have received an official deadline to vacate designated market lands by August 28, 2026. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly issued the notice as site preparation begins for a modern 24 Hour Economy Market.
Affected commercial areas include the Agbogbloshie Cargo Station, the Nzema Market, and portions of the popular Yam Market. City authorities confirmed that task force teams will begin clearing temporary structures immediately after the one month notice expires.
Mayor of Accra Michael Kpakpo Allotey assured business owners that the assembly will not abandon displaced vendors. City officials have prepared a dedicated parcel of land specifically to accommodate affected traders and protect their daily livelihoods.
The eviction timeline follows extensive engagements with traditional leaders from the Ga Traditional Council, market chiefs, and vendor associations. While city management initially proposed a two week deadline, traditional leaders negotiated an extension to give traders adequate moving time.
Officials completed structure marking on Tuesday August 4, followed by a public education campaign to explain project benefits and relocation procedures. The new development forms a key part of national infrastructure plans supporting round the clock commercial activities.
Traders are urged to use the remaining notice period to relocate smoothly to the designated site before clearance operations commence on August 28.
