A 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, Javits Frimpong, has died after a fatal shooting while walking to school in the Bronx, New York. The tragic incident happened on Thursday, October 29, 2026, shortly before 9:30 a.m., near East 171st Street and Crotona Place.

According to police reports, Javits suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Officers rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he later died from his injuries. Surveillance footage has reportedly captured a person fleeing the scene, while investigators continue to search for three suspects believed to be teenagers.

Father Links Shooting to Previous Bullying Reports

Javits had moved from Ghana to the United States about a year ago to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong. Speaking about the painful loss, Thomas described his son as a quiet and clever boy who meant everything to him. He said the school’s principal contacted him three days before the shooting about an incident involving two students who allegedly bullied Javits. According to his father, the school suspended the two students for one week. Thomas also revealed that his son had complained about repeated bullying during lunchtime and had reported the incidents several times. He believes the shooting could be connected to the bullying, although police have not confirmed any motive or established a link between the school incidents and the killing.

Police Search for Suspects After Bronx Shooting

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is searching for three teenage suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Initial reports describe them as males aged between 16 and 18 who wore black clothing and blue surgical masks. No arrests had been announced in the reports available on October 30, and investigators were still working to establish what led to the attack. Meanwhile, Javits’ death has left his family and members of the Bronx community devastated. For his father, the loss is especially painful because his son had only spent about one year in America before his life ended in such tragic circumstances. The incident has also renewed concerns about bullying, school safety and youth violence. As police continue their investigations, the Frimpong family is left seeking answers and justice for their son.
