A communications officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani East Constituency, Abubakar Yakubu, has strongly criticized the judicial process after being denied bail by an Accra Circuit Court.

Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando, expressed his frustration in a charged statement following the court’s decision. He described the situation as a “travesty of justice” and directed sharp remarks at former President John Dramani Mahama.

“J. B. Danquah gave his life for this country, and I’m not better than him. Travesty of justice has happened. President Mahama will pay for this someday,” he reportedly stated.

The comments come in the wake of legal proceedings that led to the denial of bail, though details surrounding the charges and arguments presented in court have not been fully disclosed publicly.

Yakubu’s remarks have since sparked political reactions, with observers noting the intensity of his statements and their potential implications. References to the late J.B. Danquah, a prominent Ghanaian nationalist and key figure in the country’s political history, have further heightened public interest in the case.

Political analysts say the development underscores growing tensions within Ghana’s political landscape, particularly as legal matters involving party figures increasingly attract national attention.

Meanwhile, calls are mounting from sections of the public and political supporters for clarity on the case and assurances that due process is being followed.

As the case continues, many will be watching closely to see how the legal proceedings unfold and whether Yakubu will make another attempt to secure bail.
