The Ghana Police Service successfully neutralized a notorious robbery suspect, Ali Mohammed, aged 23, during a high-stakes intelligence-led operation in the Ahafo Region. This operation resulted from a joint effort between the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department and the Ashanti North Regional Police Command.
Police arrested the suspect on June 2 at Kukuom after receiving intelligence about a planned robbery attack. Ali Mohammed was previously identified as a key suspect in several violent crimes across the region.
Authorities linked the deceased suspect to the fatal shooting of Dominic Frimpong on the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road on April 12. He was also wanted for two separate robberies at Bosomkyekye on the Mampong–Ejura road, which occurred in July 2025 and February 2026. One of the robberies in February 2026 reportedly resulted in the tragic death of a driver’s mate. During the recent operation, the suspect attempted to fight back by opening fire on police officers using an AK-47 rifle.
Officers returned fire in self-defense, effectively subduing the suspect. Although medical teams transported the suspect to the Goaso Government Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of several dangerous weapons and illicit items. Officers seized an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, two AK-47 magazines, and nine rounds of ammunition.
The police also recovered three mobile phones, a black face mask, four talismans, and a motorbike ignition key along with a sack. These items serve as evidence in the ongoing investigation into the criminal syndicate. The Ghana Police Service confirmed that investigations are still active as they hunt for other syndicate members. Authorities are now actively searching for known accomplices identified as Omar Chad, Dauda Tahidu, and Suley.
These ongoing security efforts aim to significantly reduce armed robbery and violent crimes in both the Ashanti and Ahafo regions. The police continue to monitor these areas closely to ensure the safety of all commuters and residents.
The public can take comfort in the fact that the authorities are making consistent progress against violent syndicates. The police remain committed to maintaining law and order while pursuing every lead to bring remaining suspects to justice.
