Former President Donald Trump is making rapid changes as he reshapes America in his vision.

In a major shift in U.S. immigration policy, he has revamped the wealth visa program, creating an exclusive path to U.S. citizenship: a $5 million ‘Gold Card’ aimed at attracting ultra-wealthy investors.

A High-Priced Path to U.S. Citizenship

Speaking about this new initiative, Trump stated:
“We’re going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million, and that’s going to give you [permanent resident] Green Card privileges, plus it’s going to be a route to citizenship,” he explained. “It’s somewhat like a Green Card, but at a higher level of sophistication.”

This move is designed to bring in high-net-worth individuals who are willing to invest heavily in the U.S. economy, further strengthening American business and infrastructure. It reflects Trump’s business-minded approach to governance—one that prioritizes financial power and strategic deal-making over traditional immigration pathways.

Trump’s Track Record of High-Stakes Deals

For those who have followed Trump’s career, this latest policy fits his negotiation-heavy, transactional style. In fact, I’m currently reading The Art of the Deal, and his strategic moves in Ukraine stand out as a masterclass in realpolitik.

Trump’s deal with Ukraine over minerals was a staggering example of asymmetric negotiation—one where he secured what he wanted while Ukraine lost land, thousands of young lives, and even its future potential, all without receiving a NATO membership or a firm U.S. security guarantee in return. How will Ukrainians explain such a trade-off to future generations?

Is the $5 Million ‘Gold Card’ a Fair Deal?

Given Trump’s track record of winning deals on his own terms, the $5 million citizenship offer suddenly seems reasonable. After all, if he could pull off the Ukraine deal, attracting the world’s wealthiest elites to invest in America might just be another move in his grand strategy.
